Arrive fifteen minutes early, bring your driver’s licence or passport, and you’ll get a bidder number. Registering costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Decide your ceiling the night before — calm and caffeinated, not mid-bidding. The best buyers know the number they won’t cross before the first call.
Strong early bids can settle nerves and slow the room. Call your bids clearly, keep your eye on the auctioneer, and let your limit do the deciding.
If bidding meets the reserve, the highest bidder signs and pays the deposit (usually 10%) on the spot. If it passes in, the highest bidder gets first right to negotiate — often the winning seat.
“An auction isn’t theatre — it’s transparency. Every bid is public, every buyer sees the same thing, and the market speaks for itself. My job is to make sure it speaks clearly.”Henry Caldwell — Auctioneer · all George Brand offices
