Woy Woy NSW 2256

The peninsula's front door, where the trains, the wharf and the pelicans all meet on Brisbane Water.

Life at Woy Woy.

Woy Woy is the workhorse of the peninsula. The name means much water in the local Darkinjung language and it fits, with the town wrapped around a deep tidal channel, Brisbane Water on one side and national park rising behind. Life orbits the station and the waterfront. Direct trains reach Sydney in around 75 minutes, which has made commuters of half the town, and the Fishermen’s Wharf still draws a crowd for fish and chips and the pelicans that supervise them. Spike Milligan’s family lived here, and the town has kept a good sense of humour about his jokes at its expense. Buyers get waterside living at a price the other side of Broken Bay stopped offering decades ago. Level blocks near the shops, waterfront homes along the channel, and a busy unit market around the station for downsizers who want everything within a flat walk.
